Bedrock
1990-1992. (Lancaster Mennoite H.S. Fine Arts Center) granite, native limestone, quartzie, copper
Bedrock was made for the plaza of the fine arts building of Lancaster Mennonite High School, Lancaster PA. The large limestone rock in the plaza was excavated from the site. The smaller sandstone form on top of the large natural limestone weeps water into a shallow pool. Four granite stones near the buildings entrance form a cruciform, and have the text of the Ten Commandments on the their top surfaces. Both ensembles draw on Biblical imagery, which forms the bedrock of the school’s mission and identity.
