Figurative

Some things can’t be pictured without the visible presence of a human image. I’ve cast and carved figures, and see them in the gestures of materials I’ve found or shaped.

The Hunter

2018-2020

Crema valencia marble, white oak, tar, steel, glass taxidermist eyes, thorn,  Ash burl, soil, cast bronze, lacquer. The assemblage occupies about an 8’ vertical area, and the Ash burl is 22” h. and projects about 12” from the wall, placed at about chest height. Collection of Gordon College, Wenham MA

The Hunter fuses elements of the Genesis narrative of our corruption with years of experience watching large black snakes hunt bird eggs and baby squirrel kits in a huge old maple tree.
